SIM for Cyprus: what suits a weekend, and what to check before going north
Choosing a SIM for Cyprus for a weekend or a week? How to match data to maps, messages and video, prepare an offline backup, and check coverage before a possible trip to Northern Cyprus.

For a weekend in Cyprus, 3 GB is a planning point for light use of maps, messages and bookings. For an ordinary week, look at 5 GB. Anyone who watches a lot of video may need more. Before you buy, check device compatibility and coverage for the exact route. Coverage in Northern Cyprus has not been verified, so ask support about it in advance, without inferring from the plan's name that it works there or that it does not.
What you need as soon as you land in Larnaca or Paphos
The flight is short, but right after landing the phone starts working: you open a message from the hotel, look for the car-pickup point, check an address and tell family you have arrived. A connection ready in advance saves fuss at exactly that moment. It is still worth saving the important information without internet as well.
Before the flight, gather in one folder the lodging address, booking confirmation, car or transfer pickup details and entry instructions. Check that the documents open without a network, not only that there is a link to them in email. If the place you are staying sent a code or instructions in a message, save those too.
Someone looking for a Paphos SIM or a Larnaca SIM does not necessarily need a different product for each city. The important question is what the plan you chose covers, not only what the search heading says. Check the whole route, including lodging outside the city and trips you planned for the last day.
For planning areas, sites and roads, the official Visit Cyprus tourism portal can help. That is a source of information about the destination, not confirmation of OneSim's mobile coverage.
A local SIM, an eSIM or roaming for a short holiday
For a weekend, compare not only how many gigabytes you get, but also setup time, device compatibility and whether you need ordinary calls.
- Data eSIM: you can install it before the flight on a compatible, carrier-unlocked phone. The Israeli line stays on the phone, but a OneSim plan does not provide a local number or SMS.
- Physical local SIM: an option worth checking when there is no eSIM support, or when you need a local phone service. Ask whether the plan includes a number, what the activation terms are and how you will keep using the Israeli line alongside it.
- Roaming through your Israeli carrier: check the price for the whole holiday, the included data, calls and what happens after the allowance is used up. A daily rate that looks small is not necessarily the total spend.
The guide to eSIM versus roaming costs explains how to compare on the same basis. Do not compare the price of a data-only plan with a price that also includes phone service without accounting for the difference.
If this is your first trip with a digital SIM, the how it works page explains the process. Also check the exact model on the compatible devices list, not only whether "iPhone" or "Samsung" appears on it.
3 or 5 GB: a weekend versus a week in Cyprus
The right amount is set mainly by your habits. Maps, messages and looking up somewhere to eat usually behave differently from continuous video or an automatic backup of every photo from the holiday. Think about what you will do on the mobile network and what can wait for the lodging's Wi-Fi.
| Kind of holiday | Planned use | An amount to consider, as an estimate only |
|---|---|---|
| A few light days | Maps, messages, search and a few photos | 3 GB |
| An ordinary week | Daily navigation, bookings and social media in moderation | 5 GB |
| A holiday with a lot of video | Uploads, watching and frequent video calls | 10 GB or more, depending on use |
| Work, or heavy use over a longer stay | A need checked against earlier habits | Consider 20 GB, or an XL plan of 50 GB |
Checked on 8 November 2026, Asia/Hebron, the Cyprus eSIM page showed local plans of 3 GB for ₪33.90, 5 GB for ₪46.90, 10 GB for ₪77.90, 20 GB for ₪138.90 and 50 GB for ₪321.90. All of them are valid for 30 days from the first connection at the destination. This is a snapshot. Check the current price on the product page.
A validity of 30 days does not mean you need a huge plan for a short holiday. Do not pick XL automatically for a weekend: first check whether there is use that would justify it. You can add data to the same eSIM if you need to, without installing again, subject to the top-up terms.
On a trip as a couple or a family, remember that the table refers to use from the plan, not to a separate data allowance for each traveller. If several devices use the same connection, the use adds up. If you are still unsure, there is more detail in how much data you need for a week.
Continuing from Cyprus to another country? Only then is there a reason to also look at the global plan, while checking explicit coverage for every destination and comparing the total cost. On a holiday that stays in Cyprus, start with the local option. Do not infer from a global plan any confirmation of coverage in the north.
Going to Northern Cyprus? Confirm the network and coverage first
OneSim's coverage in Northern Cyprus has not been verified. This guide does not state that the plan works there or that it does not. The country name on the product page is not enough to confirm coverage in the northern part.
Before you buy, go through the help page and send the route details. You can write: "We are planning to stay in ___ and travel to ___ in Northern Cyprus. Does the plan we chose cover those places, and are any particular settings required?" If sharing a connection is essential for you, add the device model and that need as well.
Check the exact areas, not only the city where you land. Coverage maps from local carriers, if you use them, are general information about their network. They are not proof that a OneSim plan is allowed to use that network or works in that area.
Without a suitable confirmation, do not rely on the plan as your only connection in that part of the trip. Prepare a backup of the essential information and check a suitable alternative. This guide does not set out crossing rules, documents or insurance, which you should check separately with the relevant official sources and with your own service providers.
A trip to Troodos: offline maps and confirmations
Internet in Cyprus is useful away from the beach too, but on the way to a mountain area do not assume the connection will be continuous. Before you leave for Troodos, download a map for the driving area, save the lodging address, booking confirmations and arrival directions, and check the current information for the route you planned.
Do the downloads in the evening, on Wi-Fi, not in a lay-by a moment before you lose signal. Make sure the map opens and that the booking documents are available without a network. Let the phone finish the downloads and leave enough free space on it.
According to Google, offline maps have limits: the full route has to be inside the downloaded area, there are no traffic updates without a connection, and walking or public-transport navigation is not available in that mode. A saved driving map is therefore not a complete navigation plan for a hike. Prepare navigation that suits the route you chose.
Install at home, settings on landing, and adding data
- Confirm eSIM compatibility and that the device is carrier-unlocked.
- Install on Wi-Fi before the flight and save the order details.
- Give the line a clear name, for example "Cyprus — internet".
- On landing, select it for mobile data and turn on data roaming for it, following the instructions.
- On the Israeli line, turn data roaming off and check that the device does not switch the data line to it automatically.
- At the end of the first day, check what you used, especially if videos or photo backup are running in the background.
The 30 days start at the first connection at the destination, not at payment. You can add data to the same eSIM without a new QR code. Check the top-up's terms and validity, without assuming the top-up resets the plan's clock.
OneSim is operated by Freeman Digital. The service is for data only, with no subscription and no automatic renewal. The charge is in shekels, and you can pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or bit. Before you leave, it is worth going through the checklist for a first trip with an eSIM.
Common questions
Do you get a local number?
No. A OneSim plan includes data only, with no local number, regular calls or SMS. If you need a number for a particular purpose, look for a solution that explicitly says it includes one.
Does WhatsApp stay on your usual number?
Yes, you can keep using WhatsApp with your usual number over the data connection. That is not a promise that calls or SMS on the Israeli line are included in the plan. They follow your Israeli carrier's terms.
Does validity start at purchase?
No. The 30 days start when the eSIM first connects to a network at the destination. You can buy and install ahead on Wi-Fi.
Can I share the connection with children?
Sharing a connection depends on the device and the local network, and it is not guaranteed everywhere. If you are relying on it, contact support before you buy. Several children watching can increase use, so also think about what can be downloaded in advance.
Does the plan suit Northern Cyprus?
Coverage there has not been verified. Before you buy, you need an answer from support about the plan and the exact areas on the route, not only the name "Cyprus".
For a holiday in Larnaca, Paphos and the other covered destinations, check the Cyprus eSIM plans. If you are going north, or relying on a hotspot, contact support before you buy so you can confirm it fits the route.
