How to install your eSIM on iPhone

Three ways to install: one-tap install (iOS 17.4+), scanning the QR code, or entering the details manually. Then set up the line for travel.

Installing takes about two minutes. Do it before you travel, while you’re on Wi-Fi: installing doesn’t start your plan. Your QR code and install details are on your order page and in your confirmation email.

Menu names vary slightly by iOS version and region: Cellular is called Mobile Data or Mobile Service on some iPhones.

Option 1: One-tap install (iOS 17.4 and later)

This is the easiest way if you’re opening your order page on the iPhone itself.

  1. On your iPhone, open your order page (the link is in your confirmation email).
  2. Tap Install on this iPhone.
  3. iOS opens the eSIM setup. Tap Continue and follow the prompts.

Option 2: Scan the QR code

Show the QR code on another screen (a laptop, tablet or a printout), then on your iPhone:

  1. Go to SettingsCellularAdd eSIM.
  2. Tap Use QR Code and point the camera at the code.
  3. Tap Continue and wait for the eSIM to activate. This can take a minute.

Only have one device?

Save the QR code as an image or screenshot. In the QR scanner screen (iOS 17.2+), tap Open Photos and choose the image. Or use Option 1 or Option 3.

Option 3: Enter the details manually

  1. Go to SettingsCellularAdd eSIMUse QR Code.
  2. Tap Enter Details Manually.
  3. Copy the SM-DP+ Address and the Activation Code from your order page. Leave the Confirmation Code empty.
  4. Tap Next and follow the prompts.

Set up the line for travel

During installation, iOS asks a few questions. We recommend:

  • Label: pick Travel or a custom name like OneSim.
  • Default line: keep your Primary line for calls and SMS.
  • iMessage & FaceTime: keep your Primary number.
  • Cellular Data: choose the travel eSIM (you can also change this when you land), and switch off Allow Cellular Data Switching so your home line doesn’t use data abroad.

When you land

  1. Go to SettingsCellular and tap your travel eSIM.
  2. Make sure Turn On This Line is on.
  3. Switch on Data Roaming for the travel eSIM. It’s required for our eSIMs and costs nothing extra.
  4. Check that SettingsCellularCellular Data is set to the travel eSIM.

Don’t delete the eSIM

Most eSIMs can only be installed once. If you remove it from your phone, it usually can’t be reinstalled. To stop using it, just switch the line off.
