Yes. OneSim eSIMs are data-only: they don’t come with a phone number. Your regular SIM (physical or eSIM) stays in your phone, and modern phones can run both at the same time. This is called dual SIM.
How it works
- Your home SIM keeps your number for calls and SMS.
- Your travel eSIM handles all mobile data.
- WhatsApp, iMessage and FaceTime keep working on your usual number, because they run over data.
Avoiding roaming charges on your home SIM
Calls and texts you make or receive on your home SIM abroad are charged by your home carrier at its roaming rates. To keep costs at zero:
- Set the travel eSIM as your mobile data line.
- Turn off data roaming on your home SIM (see roaming settings).
- Make calls over WhatsApp, FaceTime or other apps instead of regular calls.
Bank codes by SMS
Keeping your home SIM on lets you receive SMS verification codes from your bank while you travel. Receiving SMS abroad is usually free, but check with your carrier.
Prefer to be unreachable?
You can switch your home line off entirely: on iPhone, SettingsCellular, tap your primary line and turn off Turn On This Line. On Android, switch the SIM off in your SIM settings. Your travel data keeps working.
